Purple Haze | A Lavender Lemon Drop

Purple Haze | A Lavender Lemon Drop

This is such a swanky little cocktail. Inspired by a day trip of art & wine drinking with my girls, Kake & Haley at Lavineyard Farms in Whitmore California. We perched under a gazebo amidst fields of lavender with canvas & water colors. Sipping Limoncello, painting, laughing while nibbling Italian Muffaletta & pickled vegetables. It’s the kind of therapy that can not be purchased, it must be experienced & what better place than an idyllic lavender farms & vineyard with good friends.

There are many cocktails out there that come together in a hurry. This is not that sort. This is a specialty cocktail crafted with care meant to be savored with people you really like. The lavender, sugared rim can be nibbled like rock candy.

1 cocktail

To rim martini glasses

  • 4 Tbsp. superfine sugar

  • 1/2 tsp. culinary grade lavender, ground slightly using a mortar & pestle

(You can also purchase lavender sugar here instead of mixing it yourself)

1.) Simple syrup is equal parts of sugar & water heated until the sugar dissolves. In this case we are making a lavender simple syrup using 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, 1 Tbsp. of culinary grade lavender. Heat your water, sugar & lavender in a small sauce pan over medium heat stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat & allow cool slightly & steep to extract the lavender oils, flavoring your syrup. When slightly cooled, stir 1/2 tsp. acai powder into the syrup. Leave this mixture on the counter for a good hour, then strain. You should have a lovely purple syrup.

2.) While the syrup cools, prepare martini glasses. Mix together the superfine sugar with the 1/2 tsp. of lavender & arrange in a circle (the diameter of the martini glass) on a small, flat plate. Cut 1 Meyer lemon in half & run rim of glass along the lemon then dip the juiced rim into sugar mixture. Set aside to air dry.

3.) To make a cocktail, put ice in a shaker then add lemon juice, lavender simple syrup, limoncello & vodka. Place the cap on & shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into prepared martini glass, garnish with lemon peel.
